Meet our buddy Ray…

Ray is the Originator of Mobile Magic; the VW Experience Company. He has taken some time to talk all things Mobile Magic with Treeline Thyme Fam!

Ray tells us “Many people tell me I embody the 70's Vibe. I've lived in Portland going on 5 years and the only thing I love more than this city is showing others the magic of it!”

Ray tells all…

Why did you start the Moto Foto experience?

During my travels in South East Asia I had an epiphany during Song-Kran, a water-festival celebrated in Thailand. No matter what I do in life, I must find a way to make people laugh, smile and have a good time. Mobile Magic is a realization of that vision.

In the Fall of 2016 I came up with the idea to put a photo booth inside my 1971 VW Bus. After a winter of tinkering and learning the ins and outs of such an endeavor I soft launched Moto Foto it in the Spring of 2017.

After some great success, I realized Moto Foto only covered the photo booth side of the business, so a year and a half ago, we decided to launch with a new name, Mobile Magic! All of the same love of Moto Foto with much more to offer.

TELL US MORE! What is the Mobile Magic experience?

At Mobile Magic, the VW Experience Company, the tagline is Spreading Smiles Every Mile.

This is accomplished in a variety of ways:

Photo Booth

The flagship idea is a photo booth tucked in the back of one of our Classic VW Buses.

Once tucked inside you are transported into a surreal world! Our VW Photo Booth Buses are decked out with lights, music, costume-style props and an energy that has to be felt to understand. With the professional camera, tablet and printer, we like to say it’s where Modern Meets Classic

VW Tours

Looking to expand on the possibilities of Spreading Smiles Every Mile, Mobile Magic VW Tours was launched in the Fall of 2019. The VW Bus Portland City Tours allow you to experience the city like a local. The city tour may include some photographs of local murals, a stroll through one of our majestic parks and a tasting of some of our finest craft beers. Not to mention relaxing in the back of a groovy 1971 VW Hippie Bus. We have two buses with a capacity of up to 6 in each.

Beer Bus- Beer. Meet Bus.

An experience that combines the aesthetic of a Classic VW Bus and the local, tasty beverages of a fine craft brewery. You can find one of our VW Buses at a local maker’s market, a local event, or even driving through your local neighborhood!

Imagine sitting in your living room and you hear Beer Polka Music serenading you. Then you see your neighbors chasing down a VW Bus. Yelling for it to stop so they can buy some Beer. No, you aren’t daydreaming, there IS a VW Bus idling through your neighborhood selling Beer out of it!

CaraJam- Mobile Music. On Demand.

From sending a friend a song to a band playing atop of a VW Bus at a special event, CaraJam seamlessly threads together the magic that may be found within Music and VW Buses. You may also find us at a local park doing a pop-up show as a thank-you to the community

How do we sign up for the fun?

How did the great Portland become your home?

After months of working on my first VW Bus with my father (literally saved it from going to the junk-yard) and traveling in it for 2 months in California, I was looking to settle down somewhere. Portland came-a-calling with a couple close friends who recently moved there as well as a job offer my first Summer in 2016.

How long have been based in Portland?

Since 2016!

Your favorite thing about Portland and why?

The creative aspects of the City, from the collective positive energy to do things your own way, no matter how weird, to the incredible healing power of the many parks found within and the world-class surrounding nature.

Favorite season in Portland and why?

Spring! Flowers are blooming, weather is warming up, and the days are stretching longer and longer as it rolls into Summer.

Favorite place to visit? Food? Drinks? Activity? Hidden Gem?

Best Dive Bar in Portland by far is the Low Brow Lounge!

Roof-top of Revolution Hall is a low-key amazing spot to sip a beverage and take in the East Side

Mt. Tabor is a serene park where you are likely to find peace and relaxation

Take a tour with me and you will find much more!

Where do you want to visit next?

Chicago!

Keep an eye out for more word from Mobile Magic and Treeline Thyme.

Thanks so much Ray and the entire Mobile Magic team!
