The City of Roses Is One of America's Best

Portland, Oregon, the city that's undoubtedly known for its reputation as hipster's paradise, is packed with so much more than artisanal coffee, craft beer, and 'out-there' ice cream flavors, (although all are fantastic by the way). Portland is also home to a plethora of mouth-watering eateries, stunning sights, and some of the nation's oldest establishments.

Portland's Most Loved Spots:

Powell's City of Books is the largest used and new bookstore in the world. This place puts Barnes & Noble to shame and spans an entire city block! It's so big that they even provide a store map to help visitors navigate through the aisles and genres.

● Another must-see in Portland is the stunning Japanese Garden, located in the West Hills. The garden is oozing with tranquil vibes, boasts plenty of fresh flowers, and gives visitors an inside look into the ever-intriguing Japanese culture. This is the 5.5-acre space to get away from it all. The garden has a tea house, babbling brooks, and quaint wooden walkways.

● The Pittock Mansion sits high in the hills to the west of Portland. This nineteenth-century mansion has 46 rooms and welcomes an average of 80,000 visitors each year. Any movie buffs in the crowd? The Pittock Mansion was used as the filming location for the 1982 slasher film 'Unhinged.' The interiors and exteriors of the mansion were used to convey this terrifying take of three young women. Don't worry; the estate is only known to have friendly ghosts.

One of the coolest things about Portland is the young, underground, sorry to say it again, 'hipster culture.' The locals know all the weirdly awesome things to do and the best places to grab a bite. To learn more about Portland's best-kept secrets, subscribe to Treeline Thyme.
